People get tired of hearing the same old story when it comes to how to lose weight… We all know it takes more exercise, more vegetables, less food, and better sleep.

But there are some extremely simple things you can do in your normal daily routine that can really kickstart your fat loss.

Here’s three super easy tips I always give to people:

Eat Half

While it sounds like a simple trick, “eating half” can be one of the most complicated strategies for people trying to jump start their fat burning metabolism. Studies show that 90% of people eat way too fast for their brain to tell them whether or not they are full. The result is eating too much before you know it is too much. This can pack on unwanted calories in the form of fat, leading to an even harder time trying to lose those next 5 pounds.

So what is the trick? Take your plate of food and eat half of it. Don’t worry about how much is on the plate, just eat half. If it is easier to just fill half the plate with food, do that. After you have eaten this half plate, get up from the table and go do something else. You can watch TV, read a book, go on Facebook, just don’t eat. After 20 minutes, if you still feel hungry, have a healthy snack like nuts, a scoop of peanut butter, or a protein shake. If you don’t feel hungry, you have just realized how long it takes your brain to know whether you are full or not. Simple, right? If you need help tracking time, use the alarm app on your smartphone to set a time. After doing this enough times, you will create a habit of doing it and you won’t even need to think about it.

Take a Fiber Supplement

Very few people realize that vegetables contain a ton of fiber, which is why health experts always recommend them. If you are the kind of person who just can’t commit to preparing food, especially those very fibrous ones, you might want to look into a fiber supplement to temporarily get the benefits of fiber from vegetables.

Why fiber? Fiber sends a signal to your brain that you are full faster than any other food substance. It is this trick that helps curb people’s overeating habits. Most fiber supplements come in a powder form which you add to water and drink. Drink a glass of this supplement with a meal for best effect. Drinking it on an empty stomach won’t be as beneficial as the fiber still needs to be transported with nutrients from food to have the best effect.

Exercise During Work

This is a trick many 9 to 5 workers have probably never tried. It is kind of like a game, but with exercise. It is based on the principles of accomplishment and time efficiency. Every time you complete a small task at work, set up an exercise you must do before you can continue to the next. If you do a lot of big projects at work, use time to tell you when to get up and move around.

An example of this looks similar to this:

  1. Respond to last night’s emails 30 minutes >> Do 30 body squats (use a chair as an aid if you are new to squatting).
  2. Just finished meeting #1 of the day >> Do 15 push ups total in 5 minutes.
  3. Break time before lunch >> Walk around the office building two times. If you think you are going to get too sweaty, bring some deodorant.

This trick works great because it keeps our active metabolism going. When we sit for too long, our metabolism slows down, meaning we burn fewer calories per minute. Doing small bouts of exercise here and there every hour or so keeps this metabolism going, thus helping us burn more calories per day.

Give these three simple tricks a try for a week and I promise you’ll see the difference!
