Turmeric has gained near-superstar status in the natural health world lately. Everyone knows it’s found in curry and all about its astounding health benefits.

But the benefits and uses go way beyond tossing it in your favorite curry-flavored dish.

Because turmeric has anti-microbial properties and is an anti-inflammatory, it can help stop itching and even soothe eczema. All you need to do is combine a teaspoon of turmeric with a little bit of milk to create a paste and spread it on the affected area. Leave it on there for about 15 minutes.

If you do wind up with yellow skin, rub the area with a combination of chickpea flour and oil.

Whiten Your Teeth

It seems weird, right? I just talked about how turmeric can stain your skin, so why would you use it to whiten your teeth?

Its ability to stain clothing (something that readily holds a color) is second-to-none. But teeth are another story. The key is to use a small amount and to rinse your mouth out right away. Your teeth will be whiter, but your toothbrush will probably turn yellow. However, it’s a relatively small price to pay for a healthier mouth and white teeth.

Turmeric Toothpaste

  • 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 2 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

Directions:

First, combine the coconut oil and turmeric powder. Hint: it works best if your coconut oil is slightly melted.

Next, add your Peppermint Essential Oil and mix it with your paste.

It’s super simple and super beneficial. Both turmeric and coconut oil have anti-microbial properties, so this toothpaste can help you fight gum disease.

Golden Milk

First, you’ll need to make a paste.

There are two ways to do this. The first is to make a whole lot at one time.

Boil ½ cup of water. Add ¼ cup of turmeric powder and ½ teaspoon of black pepper. Stir until it thickens.

Don’t worry. You can save your paste for up to 2 weeks in the fridge, but if you just want to make a little bit, mix your black pepper and turmeric powder and keep it in a jar. You should do this anyway because black pepper helps increase curcumin’s bioavailability. So do yourself a favor and cut out a step.

To finish making your Golden Milk, use ¼ teaspoon of your paste and add as much milk (to taste) in the saucepan you used to create your paste. Heat it to a comfortable temperature, take it off the stove, and stir in one teaspoon of coconut oil. Add honey to taste. But use honey sparingly if you’re trying to go to sleep.

For the Best Results

Always use the highest quality turmeric you can for the best results. Buy organic whenever possible. Inferior forms of turmeric often use dyes to make their turmeric look more vibrant.
