Bad breath can spell disaster in any number of situations.  And while there are a number of solutions available in every grocery store, retail store, pharmacy or even gas station, many of them are made up largely of sugar, artificial sweeteners, or other flavoring ingredients that aren’t so good for you.

And while a tiny breath mint may seem harmless, if you rely on them regularly to keep your mouth in presentable shape, those extra calories and chemicals can add up over time.

Fortunately, there are a number of easy and natural ways to make your own breath fresheners that you can keep conveniently on hand in your purse, briefcase, backpack, desk drawer or even back pocket. This way you’ll have them whenever you need them.

 

Coriander and Fennel

Coriander (aka cilantro) and Cinnamon also help promote better digestion when used after a meal.

You’ll Need:

¼ Cup Fennel Seeds

¼ Cup Coriander Seeds

1 Teaspoon Cinnamon Powder

Powdered Sugar (To Taste)

Directions:

Dry roast the fennel seeds for about 5 minutes then set aside.

Dry roast the coriander seeds for about 2 to 3 minutes.

Mix the Fennel and coriander seeds with the cinnamon and powdered sugar.

Store it in an airtight container.

 

Coconut, Ginger, and Fennel

Ginger can also aid in digestion and coconut provides a different flavor than what is usually found in store-bought breath fresheners.

You’ll Need:

¼ Cup Shredded Coconut

2 Tablespoon Fennel Seeds

1 Teaspoon Ginger Powder

Directions:

Shred the coconut finely for easier preparation.

Roast the shredded coconut until it turns golden brown.

Dry roast the fennel seeds.

Mix all ingredients.

Store in an airtight container for up to a week.

 

Melon and Flax Seeds

Melon seeds have a nutty flavor, used with flax seeds they work well in removing bad breath.

You’ll Need:

2 Tablespoon Melon Seeds

1 Tablespoon Flax Seeds

Powdered Sugar (To Taste)

Directions:

Roast melon seeds in a pan for 3 to 4 minutes.

Dry roast flax seeds till they start to burst.

Mix everything together.

Store it in an airtight container.

 

Mint and Clove

In addition to lasting for hours as a breath freshener, mint leaves are also an excellent source of anti-oxidants.

You’ll Need:

¼ Cup Mint leaves

1 Teaspoon Powdered Cloves

1 Teaspoon Powdered Cinnamon

Powdered Sugar (To Taste)

Directions:

Dry roast the mint leaves in a pan until they are slightly firm, taking care not to blacken them.

Mix all the ingredients together.

Store in an airtight container.

 

Basil and Rosemary

Basil leaves are beneficial in several ways besides curbing your bad breath.  For this recipe, you can grow your own rosemary and basil or buy the powder.

If you’ve grown your own or bought fresh versions, let them dry out completely then grind them to a fine powder using a mortar and pestle, or by putting them into a plastic bag and flattening them with a rolling pin or the bottom of a drinking glass.

You’ll Need:

2 Teaspoons Basil Powder

1 Teaspoon Rosemary Powder

1 Teaspoon Cardamom powder

Powdered Sugar (To Taste)

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together.

Store in an airtight container.
