I’m going to share with you one of my favorite drink recipes that will not only be delicious but is also killer for inflammation. Below, you will find a list of ingredients that you will find in this drink and how they benefit your overall health.
Turmeric: The obvious and most talked about anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. The main active ingredient curcumin has been shown to not only reduce inflammation but also detoxify the liver, reduce the risk of diabetes and possibly block cancer cells. It can also act as a painkiller and antidepressant.
Ginger: Another powerful antioxidant that can help improve absorption and assimilation of other ingredients while also fighting inflammation. This spice can also promote appetite and assist with digestion.
Garlic: It's benefits rank only second to turmeric in the amount of research backing this superfood. Eating garlic regularly has been linked to reducing or even helping to prevent four of the major causes of death worldwide, including heart disease, stroke, cancer and infections. Garlic is a great natural anti-inflammatory and also has anti bacterial properties.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Rich in monounsaturated fats, like coconut butter, may decrease risk of heart disease and may help regulate blood sugar levels. It also contains nutrient omega-3 and omega 6 fatty acids which are essential for brain health.
Lemon: Very rich in vitamin C lemon can help boost your immune system. Our livers love lemons as a detoxifier, lemon helps our liver produce glutathione which aids in cleansing our liver.
- 32 oz boiling water
- ½ tbsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, thinly sliced
- 1 handful cilantro, chopped
- 1 garlic clove, peeled and crushed
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 lemons, juiced
- 5 peppercorns, whole (if tolerated on AIP)
- 1 orange, juiced (or substitute 1½ tbsp honey)
- Put water on the stove to boil. Combine all ingredients in a strainer or teapot. Pour boiling water into the pot and steep for 10 minutes. Strain and enjoy!
